Coach Utterback is in his second year at Southern Valley. He is a paraprofessional, boys basketball coach, and is in year one as a softball coach. Coach Utterback commented on the differences between coaching basketball and softball. He stated basketball is a longer season than softball and there is more to prepare for. Mr. Utterback’s job provides many challenges as he works with a wide range of students. For example, he has to think differently when working with elementary kids than he does with his high school athletes. His long-term goals are getting the most out of everyone he works with both in the classroom and in the sports realm. Mr. Utterback’s family has also moved into the Southern Valley School system with his wife now teaching HS English. He also has two daughters, AmaLeigh and Gabby who attend SV.
